Tom Leonard Statement on Dana Nessel’s Refusal to Prosecute Criminals
DeWitt, MI – Former prosecutor and assistant attorney general Tom Leonard today released the following statement on Attorney General Dana Nessel’s decision not to prosecute the dangerous radicals who caused a shutdown of an oil pipeline earlier this week:
“Sadly, there is no surprise here. This is Dana Nessel’s defining feature – she always ignores the law and denies justice when her political allies won’t like the outcome, even when it puts the health and safety of Michigan families at risk. That’s not right, and it is a big reason I’m running to be Michigan’s next attorney general.
“Dana Nessel refuses to defend Michigan’s election laws. She refuses to investigate Gretchen Whitmer’s nursing home mistakes. She is staying silent when rogue prosecutors refuse to enforce our laws. She defends unconstitutional laws that helped the governor shut down small businesses, schools and doctors’ offices. And now she refuses to prosecute a group of people who tried to cut off heat and fuel to hundreds of thousands of Michigan residents, all because her campaign supporters want to shut down our critical infrastructure. That is a complete dereliction of duty, and it is the reason Michigan voters will soon replace Dana Nessel with someone who actually wants to do the job.”
“When I am Michigan’s next attorney general, I will enforce our laws, and I will fight violent crime, no matter who is involved. That’s the job. Three years into her term, it is well past time for Dana Nessel to figure out that justice is blind and finally start siding with Michigan families over criminals.”
